YHWH is my Banner   נסּי  יהוה

Ex. 17:15

Read the passages Exodus 17:8-16 and Deuteronomy 25:17-19.

Israel was walking in the hot desert, exhausted after a long march, when suddenly the Amalekites like a snake smote them from behind, killing the women and children at the rear of their troops. Joshua and the warriors of Israel quickly turned and fought back — but could not overcome them. Only when Moses went up on the mountain and lifted his hands to GOD, looking steadfastly up to Him, trusting Him alone, Amalek was smitten and fled headlong (Ex. 14:19; 23:20-23).

“YHWH is my Banner,” and we are His “army under banner” (Song of Songs 6:4, 10; 2:4). How does that banner look like?

P 65 = 5 * 13 — He loves us and has reconciled us to GOD by His own Blood. — O, the Banner portrays our Mashiach on the Cross! It is red because of His Blood.

“YHWH is my Banner.” The Hebrew word for “banner” here is נס which means “banner, standard; signal pole.” You find it in this description:

And the children of Israel journeyed from Mount Hor by the way of the Red Sea, to go round the land of Edom; and the soul of the people became impatient on the way; and the people spoke against God, and against Moshe, Why have you brought us up out of Egypt that we should die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, and no water, and our soul loathes this light bread. Then YHWH sent fiery serpents among the people, which bit the people; and much people of Israel died. And the people came to Moshe and said, We have sinned, in that we have spoken against YHWH, and against you: pray to YHWH that He take away the serpents from us. And Moshe prayed for the people. And YHWH said to Moshe, Make a fiery serpent, and set it upon a signal pole; and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, and looks upon it, shall live. And Moshe made a serpent of copper, and put it upon a signal pole; and it came to pass, if a serpent had bitten any man, and he beheld the serpent of copper, he lived” (Num. 21:4-9).

Mashiach Himself spoke: “As Moshe lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, thus must the Son of Man be lifted up, that every one who believes on him may not perish, but have life eternal” (John 3:14-15; Num. 21:14-15). The serpent on the signal pole in the desert illustrates Mashiach on the Cross. Think of what He suffered in taking on Himself the curse we deserved, that we may inherit His eternal blessing. He cried, “My GOD, my GOD, why have You forsaken me?” — to unite us forever with GOD. He prayed, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do,” — and was slaughtered as our Passover Lamb, to freely forgive every repenting sinner. Everyone looking up to Him is instantly healed from the serpent’s poison and revived.

Satan took dominion over man by deceiving him to sin against GOD. For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is eternal life in Mashiach Yeshua our Lord” (Rom. 6:23). Yeshua paid for our sins with His blood, to AT-ONE us with GOD. Everyone who accepts Him, is delivered from the dominion of Satan and brought into the kingdom of Love.

GOD was in Mashiach, reconciling the world to Himself, not reckoning to them their offences; and putting in us the word of that reconciliation. We are ambassadors therefore for Mashiach, God as it were beseeching by us, we entreat for Mashiach, Be reconciled to God. Him who knew not sin He has made sin(offering) for us, that we might become God's righteousness in Him” (2 Cor. 5:19-21).

This alone is the message which heals the wounds of mankind. And salvation is in none other, for neither is there another name under heaven which is given among men by which we must be saved,” than in the Name of Yeshua Mashiach (Acts 4:12).

Even though Satan roars against that army of happy witnesses proclaiming His salvation, they cast out Satan and all his demons by so doing, for “they have overcome him by reason of the blood of the Lamb” (Rev. 12:11).

N 146 = 2 * 73. — 73 Mashiach is RISEN in glorious victory — 2 * and we in Him.

“Him God has raised up, having loosed the pains of death, inasmuch as it was not possible that He should be held by its power; for David says as to Him, “I have set YHWH continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart rejoices, and my glory exults; my flesh moreover shall dwell in hope.  For You will not leave my soul to Sheol, neither will You allow Your Holy One(s) to see corruption” (Acts 2:24-27; Psalm 16:8-10).

And “God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love wherewith he loved us, (we too being dead in offences,) has quickened us with the Mashiach, (ye are saved by grace,) and has raised us up together, and has made us sit down together in the heavenlies in Mashiach Yeshua” (Eph. 2:4-6).

“Incline your ear, and come unto Me; hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, the sure mercies of David” (Is. 55:3-4).

Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is your sting? where, O death, your victory? Now the sting of death is sin, and the power of sin the law; but thanks to God, who gives us the victory by our Lord Yeshua Mashiach” (1 Cor. 15:54-57).

“Having spoiled principalities and authorities, He made a show of them publicly, leading them in triumph by it” (Col. 2:13-15; and Hebrews 2:9, 14-15).

“Thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in the Mashiach, and makes manifest the odor of His knowledge through us in every place” (2 Cor. 2:14). Stand with Him in His chariot of triumph! Just cleave to Him.

S 211 — Yeshua is LORD!

YHWH said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand, until I put Your enemies as footstool of Your feet. — YHWH hath sworn, and will not repent, You are Priest for ever after the order of Melchisedek. The Lord at Your right hand will smite through kings in the day of His anger” (Psalm 110:1, 4-5).

Because He was “obedient even unto death, and that the death of the cross, therefore also God highly exalted Him, and granted Him the Name, that which is above every name, that at the Name of Yeshua every knee should bow, of heavenly and earthly and infernal beings, and every tongue confess that Yeshua Mashiach is Lord to God the Father's glory” (Phil. 2:8-11).

“No one can say, ‘Yeshua is Lord,’ but by the Holy Spirit” (1 Cor. 12:3). “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” (Luke 6:46).

After His resurrection our Lord Yeshua spoke to His disciples: All power has been given me in heaven and upon earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them to the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have enjoined you. And behold, I am with you all the days, until the completion of the age” (Matth. 28:18-20).

If we follow and obey Him, like Israel followed Joshua the son of Nun, He leads us in His triumph over all the kings of Canaan → all the hosts of the devil.

“Now after these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two and two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to come. And He said to them, The harvest indeed is great, but the workmen few; supplicate therefore the Lord of the harvest that he may send out workmen into his harvest. Go: behold I send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves. — And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us through Your Name. And He said to them, I beheld Satan as lightning falling out of heaven. Behold, I give you the power of treading upon serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall in anywise injure you. Yet in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subjected to you, but rejoice that your names are written in the heavens” (Luke 10:1-3, 17-20).

R 81 = 34 a Fountain of Living Water

“And the people thirsted there [in the desert at Rephidim] for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Why is it that you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst. And Moses cried to YHWH, saying, What shall I do with this people? Yet a little, and they will stone me! And YHWH said to Moses, Go on before the people, and take with you of the elders of Israel, and your staff with which thou didst smite the river, take in your hand, and go. Behold, I will stand before you there upon the rock on Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so before the eyes of the elders of Israel” (Ex. 17:3-6).

The Rock is Mashiach smitten on the Cross for our sins and rebellion. “After this, Yeshua, knowing that all things were now finished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, says, I thirst. There was a vessel therefore there full of vinegar, and having filled a sponge with vinegar, and putting hyssop round it, they put it up to his mouth. When therefore Yeshua had received the vinegar, He said, It is finished; and having bowed His head, He delivered up His spirit” (John 19:28-30). After this “one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately there came out blood and water. And he who saw it bears witness, and his witness is true, and he knows that he says true that ye also may believe. For these things took place that the scripture might be fulfilled, Not a bone of Him shall be broken. And again another scripture says, They shall look on Him whom they pierced” (John 19:34-37; 1 John 5:6-8).

“In that day there shall be a Fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness” (Zech. 13:1).

“My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the Fountain of Living Waters, to hew them out cisterns, broken cisterns that hold no water” (Jer. 2:13; 17:13).

“A MAN shall be as a Hiding-place from the wind, and a Covert from the storm; as Brooks of Water in a dry place, as the Shadow of a Great Rock in a thirsty land. And the eyes of them that see shall not be dim, and the ears of them that hear shall hearken; and the heart of the rash shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly” (Is. 32:2-4).

“In the last, the great day of the feast, Yeshua stood and cried saying, If any one thirst, let him come to me and drink. He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water” (John 7:37-38).

The prophet Johanan prophesied about Yeshua Mashiach in the desert: “I beheld the Spirit descending as a dove from heaven, and It abode upon Him. And I knew Him not; but He who sent me to baptize with water, He said to me, Upon whom you shall see the Spirit descending and abiding on Him, He it is who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. And I have seen and borne witness that this is the Son of God” (John 1:32-34; Matth. 3:11; Luke 3:16).

And here you see how the disciples of Yeshua were baptized in the Holy Spirit and Fire: “And when the day of Pentecost was being fulfilled, they were all together in one place. And there came suddenly a sound out of heaven as of a violent impetuous blowing, and filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them parted tongues, as of fire, and it sat upon each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave to them to speak forth. — But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and spoke forth to them, Men of Judea, and all ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give heed to my words: for these are not full of wine, as you suppose, for it is the third hour of the day; but this is that which was spoken through the prophet Joel, And it shall be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your elders shall dream with dreams; yea, even upon My bondmen and upon My bondwomen in those days will I pour out of My Spirit, and they shall prophesy. — Men of Israel, hear these words: Yeshua the Nazarene, a man borne witness to by God to you by works of power and wonders and signs, which God wrought by Him in your midst, as yourselves know — Him, given up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you, by the hand of lawless men, have crucified and slain. — Let the whole house of Israel therefore know assuredly that God has made Him, this Yeshua whom you have crucified, both Lord and Mashiach” (Acts 2:1-4, 14-18, 36).

They were persecuted, cast into prisons, scourged, stoned, but no one could stop these bold lions on Fire with the Holy Spirit from spreading the Gospel of Eternal Life to the ends of the earth. The greater the hindrances, the greater their victory. The Lion of Judah reveals Himself in them up to this day. “Who shall separate us from the love of Mashiach? tribulation or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? According as it is written, For Your sake we are put to death all the day long; we have been reckoned as sheep for slaughter. But in all these things we more than conquer through Him who has loved us” (Rom. 8:35-37).

Jesus, I my cross have taken, All to leave and follow Thee;

Destitute, despised, forsaken, Thou from hence my all shalt be.

Perish every fond ambition, All I’ve sought, and hoped and known!

Yet how rich is my condition. God and heav’n are still my own!

Let the world despise and leave me; They have left my Savior, too.

Human hearts and looks deceive me; Thou art not, like man, untrue.

And while Thou shalt smile upon me, God of wisdom, love and might,

Foes may hate, and friends may shun me. Show Thy face, and all is bright!

(Henry F. Lyte)

But Amalek is not an outward enemy, but inside: the old flesh. And the king of Amalek is Agag = self!

And Mashiach has crushed not only the head of the old serpent, but also Amalek: the old self, when He died in our stead on the Cross. This mighty victory of YHWH is described in the doubled numerical value (counting    twice). There are however some conditions, which we must meet:

P 80 — that we are a new creation in Mashiach.

For the love of the Mashiach constrains us, having judged this: that ONE DIED FOR ALL, THEN ALL HAVE DIED; and he died for all, that they who live should no longer live to themselves, but to him who died for them and has been raised. So that we henceforth know no one according to flesh; but if even we have known Mashiach according to flesh, yet now we know him thus no longer. So if any one be in Mashiach, he is a new creation; the old things have passed away; behold all things have become new” (2 Cor. 5:14-17).

“I am crucified with Mashiach, and no longer live, I, but Mashiach lives in me; but in that I now live in flesh, I live by faith, the faith of the Son of God, who has loved me and given himself for me” (Gal. 2:20). O, what a glorious reality. This is the fruit of Mashiach’s vicarious death and resurrection.

“Far be it from me to boast save in the Cross of our Lord Yeshua Mashiach, through whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world” (Gal. 6:14).

The plain costs of discipleship: Yeshua said, “The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up. And He said to them all, If any one will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me; for whosoever shall desire to save his life shall lose it, but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake, he shall save it” (Luke 9:22-24).

If we are not crucified with Mashiach, we are cut down by Amalek, like King Saul, 2 Samuel 1:8-16; 1 Samuel 15:3, 13-23. Flesh cannot combat flesh, and self not combat self.

N 206 = 2 * 103 — that we are in YHWH, for His eternal praise and glory in His Son.

Yeshua Mashiach prayed to His Father: “I do not demand for these only, but also for those who believe on me through their word; that they may be all one, as You, Father, are in me, and I in You, that they also may be one in us, that the world may believe that You have sent me. And the Glory which You have given me I have given them, that they may be one, as we are one; I in them and You in me, that they may be perfected into one and that the world may know that You have sent me, and that You have loved them as You have loved me” (John 17:20-23).

This is “the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but has now been made manifest to his saints; to whom God would make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the nations, which is Mashiach in you the hope of glory. — If therefore you have been raised with the Mashiach, seek the things which are above, where the Mashiach is, sitting at the right hand of God — for you have died, and your life is hid with the Mashiach in God. — Do not lie to one another, having put off the old man with his deeds, and having put on the new, renewed into full knowledge according to the image of Him that has created him; wherein there is not Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, bondman, freeman; but Mashiach is everything, and in all” (Col. 1:26-27; 3:1-3, 9-11).

Yeshua Mashiach is the Head, and we the members of His body, the assembly of Mashiach (Eph. 1:22-23). Is Yeshua Mashiach your Alpha and Omega, your One and All? Do not neglect the daily fellowship at His feet (Mark 1:35; Luke 10:42; Rev. 3:20).

S 286 = 26 * 11 — that YHWH is exalted!

— “and in His temple every one says, Glory!” (Psalm 29:9).

“It came to pass when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one voice to be heard in praising and thanking YHWH; and when they lifted up their voice with trumpets, and cymbals, and instruments of music, and praised YHWH: For He is good, for His loving-kindness endures for ever; that then the house, the house of YHWH, was filled with a cloud, and the priests could not stand to do their service because of the cloud; for the glory of YHWH had filled the house of God” (2 Chron. 5:13-14).

“The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says YHWH of Hosts” (Hag. 2:9).

Here you see the Glory of GOD filling His house: “And when they had prayed, the place in which they were assembled shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and spoke the Word of God with boldness. And the heart and soul of the multitude of those that had believed were one, and not one said that anything of what he possessed was his own, but all things were common to them; and with great power did the apostles give witness of the resurrection of the Lord Yeshua, and great grace was upon them all” (Acts 4:31-33). “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another" (John 13:35). Do you fit into this assembly? Do you praise GOD for your brother?

“Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” (1 Cor. 3:16).

And every individual Christian is the temple of the Holy Spirit: “Do ye not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which ye have of God; and ye are not your own? for ye have been bought with a price: glorify now then God in your body” (1 Cor. 6:19-20). When El Shadday and the Lion of Judah are sitting on the throne of your heart, Amalek is crushed under His feet.

But when you have taken off your helmet and breastplate, and rest out a little, especially after a great victory, Amalek, the old flesh, may suddenly attack you from behind, like you read about in ROMANS 7:15-8:14, — LOOK UP to YHWH MY BANNER. Look up to Yeshua Mashiach on the Cross, and praise Him for His victory! Don’t look on Amalek, don’t look on yourself, look only on Yeshua Mashiach! Lift your hand to heaven like Moshe, count on YHWH.

So Mashiach overcame by looking up in faith on His Father. So you overcome by looking up to Him! Psalm 16:8, the secret of the permanent victory of Mashiach.

This is the right war strategy: 2 Chronicles 20:21-24; Judges 7:19-22; Psalm 149:6-9; Psalm 8:2; Acts 16:22-31; Psalm 22:3: “You are holy, Who throne on the praises of Israel”; Zechariah 4:6.

R 126 = 2 * 32 * 7 — as risen with Mashiach we must walk in the Spirit.

We must learn to follow our Banner like the army of Israel followed the pillar of cloud and fire: “And on the day that the tabernacle was set up, the cloud covered the tabernacle of the tent of testimony; and at even it was upon the tabernacle as the appearance of fire, until the morning. So it was continually: the cloud covered it, and at night it was as the appearance of fire. And when the cloud rose from the tent, then the children of Israel journeyed; and at the place where the cloud stood still, there the children of Israel encamped. According to the commandment of YHWH the children of Israel journeyed, and according to the commandment of YHWH they remained encamped; all the days that the cloud dwelt upon the tabernacle they encamped” (Num. 9:15-18).

“And YHWH went before their face by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them in the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; so that they could go day and night. The pillar of the cloud did not remove from before the people by day, nor the pillar of fire by night.

The Angel of GOD protected them from their enemies: “And the Angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before them, and stood behind them. And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and was a cloud and darkness, and lit up the night; and the one did not come near the other all the night” (Ex. 13:21-22; 14:19-20).

And we must learn to run in the Spirit like the cherubim in Ezekiel’s vision: “They went every one straight forward: whither the Spirit was to go, they went; they turned not when they went. And as for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, as the appearance of torches: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright; and out of the fire went forth lightning. And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning” (Ezekiel 1:12-14).

“As many as are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Rom. 8:14). “Yeshua said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, The Son can do nothing of Himself save whatever He sees the Father doing: for whatever the Father does, these things also the Son does in like manner” (John 5:19).

“But I say, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall in no wise fulfill flesh's lust. — But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, self-control: against such things there is no law. But they that are of the Mashiach have crucified the flesh with the passions and the lusts. If we live by the Spirit, let us walk also by the Spirit” (Gal. 5:16, 22-25).

“If we walk in the Light as He is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Yeshua Mashiach His Son cleanses us from all sin. — He who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked. — Because as He is, so also are we in this world” (1 John 1:7; 2:6; 4:17).

How shall we avoid stumbling? “He who loves his brother abides in the Light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him. —Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of the Mashiach” (1 John 2:10; Gal. 6:2).

Hereby we have known love, because He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren” (1 John 3:16; this is the fruit of John 3:16).

“Who is she that looks forth as the dawn, beautiful as the moon, pure as the sun, terrible as troops under banner? — These are they who follow the Lamb whithersoever He goes” (Song of Songs 6:10; Rev. 14:4).

Mary had learned the royal lesson from a life with Yeshua; and she spoke to the servants, “Whatever He may say to you, DO” (John 2:5). Had they not done exactly what Yeshua said, no drop of wine would have come.

Indeed, “His Banner over me is Love” (Song of Songs 2:4).
